About the Position
The Pyrkes of Learning Academy is seeking a curious, innovative, and hands-on Tech N Tinker Educator to join our Enrichment Program.
The Tech N Tinker Educator will plan and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate experiences for children ages 5 to 12 that encourage curiosity, experimentation, problem-solving, creativity, and confidence. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys discovering how things work and can turn that curiosity into meaningful experiences for children.
Our Tech N Tinker Educator does more than introduce children to technology. They create opportunities for children to question, build, test, experiment, and think creatively, helping them develop the confidence to explore unfamiliar problems and find their own solutions.
The Tech N Tinker Educator will work collaboratively with classroom educators to connect enrichment experiences with classroom learning, children's interests, developmental needs, and emerging skills. Experiences should complement what children are already learning while providing opportunities to explore ideas in new and practical ways.
Planning will be informed by observations, conversations with classroom educators, children's questions and interests, and identified developmental needs. The educator will adapt experiences to meet children where they are while encouraging them to stretch their thinking and explore possibilities.
A technology or engineering degree is not required. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate curiosity, creativity, initiative, practical problem-solving skills, and the ability to turn ideas into engaging learning experiences for children.
Introduce children to hands-on exploration involving technology, science, engineering, building, experimentation, and problem-solving.
Provide clear, engaging, and age-appropriate instructions and demonstrations when introducing new concepts, materials, tools, equipment, or processes.
Create an environment where children feel encouraged to question, investigate, experiment, and think creatively.
Guide children through challenges without immediately providing the solution, encouraging them to think, test, troubleshoot, and try again.
Encourage children to explore different approaches and understand that unsuccessful attempts can be an important part of learning.
Provide a thoughtful balance of educator-guided challenges and open-ended exploration.
Facilitate collaborative experiences that encourage communication, teamwork, planning, leadership, and shared problem-solving.
Support children in developing critical thinking, creativity, persistence, fine-motor coordination, hand-eye coordination, spatial reasoning, and confidence.
Guide children through multi-step projects and investigations, supporting them as they plan, build, test, modify, and complete their work.
Adjust instruction and support based on individual children's ages, abilities, interests, and developmental needs.
Encourage children to explain their thinking, share discoveries, discuss results, and reflect on what they learned.
Celebrate curiosity and effort while helping children develop the confidence to try something new, work through challenges, and discover what they are capable of creating.
Plan and prepare age-appropriate Tech N Tinker experiences for children ages 5–12 based on their developmental needs, abilities, interests, and current classroom learning.
Develop and maintain the Tech N Tinker schedule in coordination with classroom programming and the Academy's enrichment schedule.
Communicate and collaborate with classroom educators to understand current themes, concepts, skills, developmental goals, and areas of need within each classroom.
Use children's questions, interests, observations, developmental needs, and classroom learning to guide ongoing planning and create opportunities for deeper exploration.
Extend classroom learning through hands-on investigation, building, experimentation, problem-solving, and creative thinking, drawing inspiration from concepts and topics already being explored by the children.
Create experiences that encourage children to wonder, investigate, test ideas, make connections, and develop their own solutions rather than simply follow predetermined outcomes.
Intentionally incorporate opportunities to develop problem-solving, critical thinking, fine-motor coordination, hand-eye coordination, spatial reasoning, persistence, collaboration, creativity, and confidence.
Provide a thoughtful balance of educator-guided challenges and open-ended exploration, allowing children to experiment with ideas and approaches while receiving appropriate support.
Observe children's participation, questions, interests, emerging skills, and areas of need and use these observations to adapt future experiences and support continued growth.
Maintain accurate and timely program documentation, including observations, planning documentation, progress reports, and other program reports as required.
Complete behavior reports, incident reports, accident reports, and other required documentation accurately, promptly, and in accordance with Academy policies and procedures.
Communicate relevant observations, concerns, and information regarding children's participation, development, interests, behavior, or well-being with classroom educators and Academy leadership.
Share relevant information regarding children's engagement, discoveries, emerging skills, and areas requiring additional support.
Work collaboratively with classroom educators to ensure Tech N Tinker experiences complement and extend classroom learning and respond to children's developmental needs.
Communicate appropriately regarding ongoing or multi-session projects to support continuity and completion.
Participate in staff meetings, training, professional development, and program planning as required.
Follow all Academy policies, procedures, confidentiality requirements, health and safety requirements, and applicable childcare regulations.
Provide active and attentive daily supervision while supporting children's safety, well-being, participation, and positive engagement.
Use positive, respectful, and developmentally appropriate guidance strategies.
Support children with emerging skills by providing appropriate assistance while encouraging independence, curiosity, persistence, and confidence.
Prepare and maintain an organized, welcoming, and accessible Tech N Tinker learning environment.
Prepare, organize, inspect, and appropriately store materials, tools, equipment, and technology resources before and after activities.
Provide appropriate supervision and guidance when children are using unfamiliar materials, tools, equipment, or technology.
Ensure children understand relevant safety expectations and appropriate use of materials and equipment before beginning an experience.
Clean and maintain work surfaces, materials, equipment, and the enrichment space following activities.
Maintain an organized inventory of Tech N Tinker materials and resources and communicate when supplies require replenishment, replacement, or maintenance.
Support safe and organized transitions between the enrichment program and classroom environments.
Contribute to the overall cleanliness, safety, organization, and positive operation of The Pyrkes of Learning Academy when required.

What We're Looking For
Applicants must have:
At least ECE Level 1 or Level 2 certification
Current Child Care First Aid/CPR certification
A current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
A demonstrated interest or background in technology, science, engineering, problem-solving, or hands-on learning
Experience planning or facilitating hands-on learning experiences is an asset
The ability to work on-site at The Pyrkes of Learning Academy
Required Qualifications
Applicants selected for further consideration must be prepared to bring a portfolio of previous hands-on projects, activities, or learning experiences to their interview.
Your portfolio may include:
Previously planned STEM, technology, science, or hands-on activities
Photographs of previous projects, builds, experiments, or activities
Personal projects demonstrating creativity, technical skills, or problem-solving
Child-focused activities you have planned or facilitated
Activity instructions, demonstrations, prototypes, or planning materials
Your portfolio does not need to demonstrate advanced technical expertise. We are interested in seeing your curiosity, creativity, initiative, problem-solving ability, and ability to develop engaging, age-appropriate hands-on experiences for children.

A background in technology, engineering, science, robotics, coding, design, construction, or another hands-on field is an asset.
