Enrichment Educator — Learning Environment

About the Position

The Pyrkes of Learning Academy is seeking creative, engaging, and thoughtful Enrichment Educators to join our learning environments for children ages 3.5–12.

Enrichment Educators are responsible for creating meaningful, age-appropriate learning experiences that extend children's classroom learning through hands-on exploration, guided discovery, creativity, discussion, collaboration, and purposeful play.

This is not a position where educators simply follow pre-prepared activities. Our Enrichment Educators are expected to think creatively, develop their own experiences, and respond to the children in front of them. Educators use classroom learning, children's interests, observations, developmental needs, and current areas of exploration to create experiences that are engaging and meaningful.

Depending on the learning environment, educators may facilitate group learning experiences, discussions, stories, demonstrations, creative projects, collaborative challenges, movement-based experiences, investigations, or mini-lessons.

The educator's ability to take an idea and turn it into an engaging experience for children is an important part of this position.

• Facilitate engaging group and small-group learning experiences appropriate to children's ages and developmental levels.

• Introduce new concepts through clear, age-appropriate explanations, demonstrations, stories, discussions, or hands-on experiences.

• Develop and deliver short, purposeful mini-lessons that support children's understanding of concepts being explored.

• Encourage children to ask questions, share ideas, make connections, and participate actively in their learning.

• Adapt activities and instruction based on children's abilities, interests, engagement, and emerging understanding.

• Encourage children to experiment, create, communicate, collaborate, problem-solve, and express their ideas.

• Support children in developing confidence when contributing ideas, working with others, and sharing their learning.

• Guide children through multi-step experiences while encouraging independence, persistence, and follow-through.

• Create opportunities for children to revisit and build upon previous learning.

• Facilitate collaborative experiences where children contribute to a shared goal or creation.

• Plan and prepare age-appropriate enrichment experiences based on children's developmental needs, abilities, interests, and current classroom learning.

• Communicate and collaborate with classroom educators to understand current themes, concepts, skills, developmental goals, and areas of need.

• Use children's questions, interests, observations, and emerging skills to guide ongoing planning.

• Extend classroom learning through hands-on experiences, discussion, exploration, creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration.

• Develop original activities, mini-lessons, stories, discussions, projects, and group experiences appropriate to the learning environment.

• Use a variety of approaches to make learning engaging, accessible, and meaningful for children.

• Plan experiences that encourage children to think, communicate, create, collaborate, make connections, and apply what they are learning.

• Provide a thoughtful balance of educator-guided experiences and opportunities for child-led exploration.

• Prepare materials, resources, and learning spaces in advance to support organized and purposeful sessions.

• Develop and maintain the enrichment schedule in coordination with classroom programming and Academy requirements.

• Observe children's participation, interests, emerging skills, and areas of need and use these observations to inform future planning.

• Maintain accurate and timely program documentation, including observations, planning documentation, progress reports, and other reports as required.

• Complete behavior reports, incident reports, accident reports, and other required documentation accurately and promptly.

• Communicate relevant observations, concerns, and information regarding children's participation, development, interests, behavior, or well-being with classroom educators and Academy leadership.

• Work collaboratively with classroom educators to ensure enrichment experiences complement and extend classroom learning.

• Participate in staff meetings, training, professional development, and program planning as required.

• Follow all Academy policies, procedures, confidentiality requirements, health and safety requirements, and applicable childcare regulations.

• Provide active and attentive daily supervision while supporting children's safety, well-being, participation, and positive engagement.

• Use positive, respectful, and developmentally appropriate guidance strategies.

• Support children with emerging skills while encouraging independence, confidence, and participation.

• Prepare and maintain an organized, welcoming, and accessible learning environment.

• Prepare, organize, and appropriately store materials and resources before and after activities.

• Ensure materials and activities are used safely and appropriately.

• Maintain a clean and organized enrichment environment throughout the program.

• Support safe and organized transitions between the enrichment environment and classroom.

• Contribute to the overall cleanliness, safety, organization, and positive operation of The Pyrkes of Learning Academy when required.

What We're Looking For

Applicants must have:

• At least ECE Level 1 or Level 2 certification

• Current Child Care First Aid/CPR certification

• A current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search

• Experience working with children in an educational, childcare, recreational, or enrichment setting

• Demonstrated ability to plan and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate learning experiences

• Strong communication and collaboration skills

• The ability to work on-site at The Pyrkes of Learning Academy

A background or experience in education, early learning, literacy, science, mathematics, performing arts, creative arts, social-emotional learning, recreation, or another related field is an asset.

Formal specialization in a particular subject area is not required. We are interested in educators who bring creativity, initiative, curiosity, strong communication skills, and the ability to turn ideas into meaningful experiences for children.

Required Qualifications

Applicants selected for further consideration may be asked to provide examples of previously planned or facilitated learning experiences.

Examples may include:

• Lesson or activity plans

• Original stories or educational materials

• Photographs of projects or group experiences

• Examples of activities developed for children

• Performance, creative, educational, or project-based work

• Other materials demonstrating your ability to plan engaging learning experiences

Your examples do not need to be professionally produced. We are interested in seeing your creativity, initiative, planning ability, and approach to working with children.

• Passionate about hands-on learning, creativity, discovery, and working with children

Portfolio Requirement

Applicants should indicate which Enrichment Learning Environment they are interested in applying for when completing the Academy's application form.

Applicants may be considered for other Enrichment Learning Environments based on their experience, qualifications, strengths, and the needs of the Academy. This can be discussed during the interview process.
